Panda Century
Overview
Panda Century is an online Chinese learning platform that globally provides Chinese to both students and working adults. They offer customized programs tailored to their students’ interests in the aim to foster an immersive and interesting learning environment.
As part of the branding project, we were to design a mobile app where users can make payments when signing up for programs, classes and future events, and receive important updates. We designed a website for them too!

“They truly went above and beyond to help us create a brand that reflects who we are and what we stand for.”
— Li Li, Founder and CEO, Panda Century Education Pte Ltd
Background
With Panda Century’s launch into the Chinese edutech space, they wanted to stand out amongst the sea of competitors that have saturated the market. This project was initially helmed by another designer which was then passed on to me to lead, and by this point they had already interviewed the client and done the research needed. Hence, it was up to me to carry the baton.
I was responsible for the branding, product design, and UI/UX experience for both the website and mobile app. Despite having little experience in the education sector, this project was a blessing in disguise for me. It has also been an honour to receive Gold & Silver Indigo Design Awards for branding, as well as a Bronze Global Design iT Award for Visual Communication for Panda Century.
Product Vision
As a product, we wanted to position Panda Century as the go-to Chinese learning platform with 3 key focus areas:
Tailored Learning for All Ages
We aim to create a seamless process for identifying user types interacting with the app, ensuring they receive class recommendations suited to their needs.
For example, if the registration is for children or youths, they will be shown preschool programs or general knowledge courses. Meanwhile, working adults will have access to specialized adult classes.
Flexibility Through Free Trials
We want to encourage users to sign up for packages while allowing them to experience free trial classes first.
These trial sessions enable Panda Century’s teachers to understand students’ interests and tailor lessons accordingly, making the learning experience more immersive and engaging, ultimately helping students learn Chinese more effectively and at their own pace.
A Multifunctional Learning Hub
We want users to have everything they need for a seamless learning experience in one app.
They can track upcoming and past lessons, submit and review homework, join Zoom classes, explore and sign up for new courses, and stay informed with announcements—all within a single, easy-to-use platform.
Information Architecture
Taking the product vision into consideration, a lot of work and thought was put into planning the user flows to make the app as seamless as possible, and also taking into account of how we can showcase the brand's offerings.
In essence, we wanted to make the app multi-functional for users to explore and sign up for Panda Century's classes, and help them manage their payments and class credits.
We had to also break down the technical details of how students can join their classes (sending app notification reminders an hour before hand, connecting the app to zoom whereby they can tap 'Join' and the app would direct them to the online class), and submitting their homework or reviewing their past submissions within the app.

See the Panda Century App in action!
Designing the Panda Century app was an exciting challenge, allowing me to create a seamless and engaging learning experience. While the app is yet to be developed, I believe it has the potential to help Panda Century’s students—both current and prospective—enhance their Chinese learning anytime, anywhere.
